IKO kitesurfing levels explained: what each one means
What the five IKO kitesurfing levels mean, what you can do at each one, and how your certification helps when you rent equipment or change schools.
Level 3 – Advanced · IKO lessons 3J to 3N
Learn to control your speed, ride upwind, turn without stopping and land a basic jump. IKO Level 2 instructors teach every lesson on our protected lagoon on the Red Sea.

Advanced lessons
Our advanced kitesurfing course in Marsa Alam follows the IKO lesson stages 3J to 3N. You work on the skills that make you a confident, independent rider: managing your speed by edging, riding upwind, changing direction without stopping and landing a basic jump.
These lessons make up the Independent group of the IKO Kiteboarding Training Path.
You learn on our protected lagoon on the Red Sea, in small groups taught by IKO instructors.

Five lesson stages, each following the IKO certification standards.
You control your riding speed by edging and ride consistently in both directions.
You ride consistently in all directions, including upwind, ride among other riders and water users, and respect the right-of-way rules.
You change direction without stopping, and carry out a self-rescue and a full pack-down in the water.
You assess the risks and stay aware of your riding area, and you launch your kite by yourself (self-launch).
You make a toe side turn, learn the theory and the safety rules for jumping, then land a basic jump.
The advanced course covers more than technique. You also learn the right-of-way rules, how to assess risk, how to rescue yourself and the safety rules for jumping.
In every class you stay in touch with your instructor by radio at all times. Classes are taught by IKO Level 2 instructors, and the student-to-instructor ratio is a maximum of 2:1.
